Gloria Card (Nickerson)
Gloria N. Card, 89, of Washington Street, Bath, Maine died at her home on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
Gloria, daughter of John A. and Dorris (Dexter) Nickerson, was born August 8, 1928 in Brewer, Maine. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1946. She attended the University of Maine where she met her husband, Donald L. Card. They were married on June 13, 1948.
Early in her marriage, job related moves meant setting up households in Bangor, Gardner, Saco, Caribou and finally Bath where the family settled in 1961. When her sons were young, she volunteered in their schools and was a Cub Scout den mother.
Gloria worked at Bath Savings as a teller for 23 years, retiring in 1990. Following her retirement she worked part-time at Wilson's Drug Store for another 10 years.
Her family meant everything to her. Family gatherings, outings with grandchildren, and Christmas with family were high points for her. Shopping for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought her great joy.
Gloria enjoyed knitting for her children and grandchildren. She took various trips to points of interest in the states and abroad. She also enjoyed reading and was an avid football fan.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband Don in 2002 and her sister Marilyn Russell.
She is survived by four sons: Donald J. Card and his wife Betsy of Phippsburg; Peter B. Card and his partner JoJo of Gautier, MS; John S. Card and his wife Claudia of Brunswick; and Robert M. Card of South Portland, 10 grandchildren: Carrie Anne Bryne and husband Matthew of Foxboro, MA; Christopher Card and wife Jessica of Derry, N.H., Heather Valliere and husband Sean of Kennebunk, Stephen Card and wife Courtney or Salt Lake City, UT; Laurel Card and partner Elias of Philadelphia, PA; Aimee Rice and partner Troy of Bowdoin; Jesse Vinson and wife Molly of Topsham; John D. Card of Brunswick; Amanda Card and partner Kevin of Freeport, and Kathryn Card and husband Stephen DiOrio of Vienna, VA, and 11 great grandchildren.
Gloria requested a private family service with internment next to her husband in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. Donations in her memory to any veteran’s service organization would be appreciated.
