Obituary for Judith Wold (Sargent)

Judith Wold (Sargent)
West Bath- Judith S. Wold passed away peacefully on March 15, 2018.
She was born Judith Ann Sargent on October 13, 1926, in Gloucester, Massachusetts. She was named Judith Ann after the first baby girl born in Gloucester. Her father was George Edwin Sargent and her mother was Helen Owen Sargent Michener.
Judy spent her childhood growing up in Rutland, Vermont. The family moved to Sumter, South Carolina where she finished high school and left to attend Smith College. After graduating, she went to join her parents who had moved to Bath, Maine. There she met and married Lawrence E. Wold. She remained in Bath while Larry finished his Service obligation. During those years, the couple had two daughters and Judy taught Nursery school.
The family moved to Orono, Maine after Larry’s service years so that he could complete his Engineering Degree at University of Maine. After his graduation, the family then moved to Cape Elizabeth, Maine. They had another child, a son, and a few years later, Judy taught first grade at Eight Corners School in Scarborough. In 1972, after their first daughter finished high school, the family moved to Bath and then to Brigham’s Cove, West Bath.
Judith continued her education, completing her Masters degree and then taught first grade at Huse School in Bath. She was an extremely dedicated teacher, always taking extra courses and creating materials to enhance her skills and make learning fun. She is still remembered fondly as a “favorite teacher”.
She was not only an excellent teacher, but also an amazing mother. Somehow, while keeping a full-time job, making meals and running a household, she always managed to be there for her three children. She made time to help with homework and school activities, as well as take care of everyone’s pets. She always made holidays even more special by doing things like carving pumpkins or baking and decorating cookies.
She loved gardening and created many beautiful gardens. Her husband Larry was an avid sailor and they spent many wonderful days sailing around the coast of Maine on their sailboat “Halcyon”. After retiring she was happy to be able spend more time with her grandchildren, both in Maine and in Florida.
Judy’s mother Helen had done extensive research into their genealogy. Judy researched even further and also looked into Larry’s Norwegian relatives as well. She had a chance to travel to Wales and there she was able to locate a family grave dating back to the 1300’s. Later, she and Larry were able to travel to Norway twice and got to meet some of the Wold relatives.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Larry, who passed away March 17, 2013. She is survived by her daughters Diane Jennings and Susan Saunders and son Leigh Wold, grandchildren Courtney Jennings England, Nicholas and Jamison Saunders, Elizabeth, Maren, and Sonia Wold, and great-grandchildren Charlotte and Jon Logan England.
A Celebration of Life get-together will be held this summer. Arrangements are by Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. Condolences may be made online at www.Daiglefuneralhome.com.
