Karen was born in Waldoboro on July 28, 1942, a daughter of Dwight F. and Ruth Mae (Davis) Furbish.
Karen worked for the Freeport Shoe Company for many years but retired from Bath Iron Works after 30 years in the paint shop. After retirement she often stated that she wished she could still go to work every day. She always said she missed her friends from BIW.
She loved cooking and she would spend many hours reading cookbooks and trying new recipes. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she decorated for the holidays she went above and beyond to make it extra special for her grandchildren.
Karen enjoyed entertaining her friends and family in her home. She hosted many holiday celebrations that she enjoyed cooking and making sure everyone had the most fabulous time. Her celebrations were always the talk of the town for months after. She with her husband Tom hosted and volunteered their time to the veterans of Maine every year. Karen always enjoyed giving and helping others that were less fortunate. She spent many years attending the Elks Club of Brunswick with Tom and volunteered her time to the many charities they hosted.
One of Karen’s favorite hobbies was to work in her flower gardens; she always enjoyed mowing her yard on a hot July day. She also loved working on her home; you never knew what color her walls were going to be. She was very proud of her home and enjoyed having friends and family over to visit.
For many years Karen spent summers at their cottage on Pleasant Pond in Gardiner. She loved spending time there with her family and entertaining her friends. She especially loved when her grandchildren came to stay with her. Karen spent many wonderful days with her grandchildren and always said how much she loved to be with them. She had many pets over her lifetime but her favorites were Candy the poodle and Brat the cat.
