Phippsburg - Lane Mabbett, 72, of Sunny View Lane died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at his residence.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 30, 1945, a son of Hauthaway and Anita (Lane) Mabbett Sr.
He attended Middlebury College in Vermont. He married Karen Ann Troland in 1965 and worked in the lab at Dewey & Almy in Cambridge, MA before becoming a buyer and then purchasing agent for W.R. Grace in Lexington. He was then employed by M.S. Paisner in Jamaica Plain, MA. In 1982 he married Mary Ann Martin. He owned and operated, with his friend Mike, and later was sole proprietor of Old World Sales in Natick. He also owned and operated Metro West Realty in Natick and Old World Flag in Natick and Sudbury.
He was a former State Historian and member of the Maine Mayflower Society and a member of Son’s of the American Revolution Maine Society.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Mabbett of Phippsburg, one son, Lane Mabbett Jr. and his wife Susan of Milford, NH, one brother, Hauthaway Mabbett Jr. and his wife Debbie of Roxbury, CT, one sister, Lisa Mabbett Hamerstone of Washington D.C., two grandchildren, Olivia Mabbett and Parker Mabbett, two nephews, two nieces, a great niece and two great nephews. He is also survived by his “comfort dog”, Rocky.
He was predeceased by one son, Benjamin Mabbett on July 3, 1993, as well as by his parents.
When told he would likely lose his battle against cancer, Lane said, “I’m going to miss me”. And so will those of us who knew and continue to love him.
A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Kennebec Tavern, 119 Commercial Street, Bath. Burial will be at 1 PM on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Hingham Cemetery in Hingham, MA.
